I sing and play the music that I love. I am doing this excessively, it’s an everyday thing. I have dreams in my life: Singing and playing live for people. And recording my music.
I was born abroad. I learned to listen to music in the West Berlin of the Seventies. Among my musical sources were two A.F.N.-DJs: The Magnificent Magoo on AFN-FM and Roland Bynum over in Frankfurt. My brother and I spent weeks and more money than we had to get a hold on the records they would play … Graham Central Station. Enchantment, Gladys Knight, One Way, Maze, Fatback, Lakeside, you name it.
I got hooked on what I heard live at the time; Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, B. B. King, Roger and Zapp Troutman, Funkadelic, The Bar-Kays, Luther Vandross, The Gap Band, The Crusaders, Jonnny “Guitar” Watson and many more.
The day that my father came home with a copy of “Songs in the Key of Life” is one very vivid memory in my life. I was 10 years old that year and haven’t grown much older since.
I write and play my music, I write my lyrics and I am always happy if somebody comes up to join the jam. I have a deep belief in simple songs about real pain, real joy and real fun.
I guess I am repeating myself in my songs and I like doing that, too. I am generally very much into doing a good thing over and over again.
